Clearly states in the advertisement 0$ sign up fee, its says that early and often. It's not true, they in fact do have a charge of AU$59.00. They get away with it saying it's a pass through charge from Telstra and not them.

Been on the phone with someone from Mates who INSISTED it showed after you clicked on "I don't have an active phone line" that AU$59.00 fee would be charged, it doesn't. We went through the whole process again together over the phone and it didn't, like, at all. You would have to download and read the whole fine print to find out. Tried cancelling it, and even though it was two days ago it can no longer be done without paying the first full month + $59.00.

Dodgy effing practices and a customer service who aggressively INSISTS you are wrong and then when proved wrong just falls back to "well you should have read the fine print".

Great start "Mate".

DO NOT USE MATE! BEWARE! I chose MATE Communicate for my home ADSL connection. Like everyone, I reviewed all the providers and decided to go with a brand which seemed down to earth and local friendly. I was WRONG! I signed up for ADSL2+ home line unlimited and was paying $69 a month. Started ok for a few months and then it continued to drop out intermediately. Contacting MATE support is a huge pain and waste of time. They send auto email replies asking you to check the line, check your modem etc. We are NOT that stupid MATE! They first blame their customers, and after, they blame Telstra. In the end, I changed out to TPG and all is working right away with out issues. Read the bad or negative reviews because these experiences are TRUE. The rest, I see that they are FAKE reviews made by MATE themselves. Terrible service, terrible NO support, WORST provider, DANGER STAY AWAY and save yourself money, time and bad emotions.

Signed up with Mate after all the wonderful reviews that I read online (through the mate website). Thought it would be a straight forward connection. Have been charged for the first month, however do not have internet access yet for two weeks now. Have to contact either a private technician or engage Telstra to check for faults with a potential extra charge. Totally not happy. Would have been better for Mate especially for new connections to start charging only when internet is actually connected. Guess just need to read the T&C and understand it fully before signing up.

Hopeless technical support who rely on Telstra - don’t even have good relationship with Telstra as they cannot escalate

No news no update no proactive ness

Disgraceful and shouldn’t even be in business

Not connected yet which is why I have selected a neutral 5 for speed, reliability and value for money. The support team are very helpful.
